Overall responsibility 

To contribute to the achievements of objectives and results set out in the Organization Strategy by  leading on the development, coordination, implementation and monitoring of the organization’s gender action plan with a priority on ensuring that women’s economic empowerment is advanced through the organization’s programme and contributing to an effective national and local response to gender based violence. 

Job Description

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Asist Program team with daily management of  YCWL Gender Desk and relevant parts of the program – both organizational and substantive matters – budgeting, planning and general monitoring of projects in close collaboration with   Programme Manager;
  • Help Gender desk mobilize or formulate legal means to source support for the sustainability of gender-related programs that the institution is involved with  
  • Monitor and report on YCWL’s gender activities and recommend adjustments where necessary   
  • Create opportunities for young women benefiting from YCWL activities to enable them to realize their full potentials and to live dignified lives.  
  • Ensure broad-based participation, dissemination of issues affecting the rights of women and children;

  • Ensure dissemination of information and knowledge management for effective program implementation,
  • Ensure adherence to the program work plan, prepare revisions of the work plan
  • Assist Gender deskr to organise relevant program activities towards achieving expected results in accordance with the Program/project related documents 
  • The Gender Officer shall work along with both local and international volunteers to attract funding for the continuation of gender specific initiative in consultation with Program Manager.  
  • Help organize programs (retreats, assemblies, sports, etc)
  • Work within the development team, in particular the core project/program areas including the: Be the Change Academy(BTCA) project, Girls in ICT(G-ICT), Girls in Charge(GIC), Feminist Dialogue,   to ensure that a sound gender analysis informs programme design and management, and identify strategic actions to be undertaken to improve the quality of programme implementation 
  • Provide advice on appropriate gender sensitive indicators in the performance measurement framework of different interventions and support colleagues in the monitoring and reporting of programme results/outputs and objectives against agreed indicators. 
  • Will assist Gender desk on the implementation, monitoring and reporting on the implementation of the gender action plan
  • Help develop and maintain positive working relations with a wide network of partners, including Government, development partners, parliament, media and NGOs. 
  • Sometimes represent the organization at relevant development partner meetings, including the Gender Development Partners Group and prepare briefing   for the Program Manager   as required 
  • Assist gender desk oversee the management of YCWL female training activities including staff, beneficiaries
  • Will assist in drafting monthly and quarterly program progress reports, as well as any other reports requested by the Program Manager and donors;
  • Ensure a good working relationship between YCWL and other organizations and partners in progress. 
  • Create online blogs, newsletter on various social networks 
  • Undertake other responsibilities which may be assigned from time to time, including contributing to organization communications and events 
  • Perform other tasks incidental to the job  

Qualifications: 

  • Ability to partner across multiple organizations ✓ Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in teams as well as acting independently in the implementation of specific tasks, multitasking and prioritizing, working under pressure and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of people of various nationalities and cultural backgrounds
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including editing skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • experience in facilitating roundtables and platform discussions and working with local communities
  •  Creative, resourceful, confident, goal-oriented, and entrepreneurial
